Outbox
Updated: 12/20/2017 by Computer Hope
An outbox is the location or folder where e-mail is stored before being sent. Below is a short list of reasons why the outbox is used.
Reasons for the outbox
- Allows an e-mail to be composed and stored even if there is no Internet connection. Once the computer's connection is restored, all e-mails in the outbox are sent automatically.
- Gives the user time to review, edit, and delete messages before they are sent.
- Allows the user to respond to all their e-mails in bulk, which helps prevent interruptions.
Tip
Once e-mail is sent, if your e-mail program or service has a Sent items folder, it's moved from the outbox to the Sent items.
