Peer

Updated: 05/01/2023 by Computer Hope
Illustration of several computing devices connected to a network and Internet.

In computer networking, a peer refers to a computer that is on the same OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) layer as one or more other devices. More plainly, it's any device with rights that are identical to the other units connected to the same network. All of the individual peer units combine to make what is known as a peer group.
