Phase change
Updated: 09/12/2023 by Computer Hope
Phase change is a step performed by CD-R (compact disc recordable), CD-RW (compact disc re-writable), DVD-RAM (digital versatile disc random access memory), and DVD-RW (digital versatile disc read/write) drives. Phase change involves changing the CD (compact disc) or DVD (digital versatile disc) material from an amorphous state to a crystalline state, causing the surface to reflect light differently. Changing how the surface reflects makes it possible to create 0's and 1's (binary) on the disc.
