Founded on February 3, 1986 by Steve Jobs, Edwin Catmull, and Alvy Ray Smith. Pixar Animation Studios, often stylized as Pixar, is an American computer animation film studio headquartered in Emeryville, California. Pixar started in 1979 as The Graphics Group, a CGI and animation division of Lucasfilm. In 1986, they transitioned to a motion picture animation studio, funded by Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs. The Walt Disney Company bought Pixar in 2006 for $7.4 billion USD, a deal making Steve Jobs Disney's largest shareholder.
