Plex
Plex is a streaming media server and client software. It is available for free, with premium features for paid customers. It enables users to stream a library of high-quality video, audio, and images over a home or remote network to a device running the client software.
History
The development of Plex began in 2007 as a personal project of Elan Feingold, who wanted to port the XBMC (Xbox Media Center) to macOS. His work caught the attention of software publishers, who eventually funded his work. In December 2009, they founded Plex, Inc. to develop a commercial fork of the software.
