Polling cycle
Updated: 03/05/2023 by Computer Hope
With an input/output process, a polling cycle is the total time required for a client program to perform a status check of a computer or another controlling device's relevant connections. More plainly, a polling cycle is how much time passes while your computer's connections are verified as ready and functional.
An example of where polling is used is with a printer. When printing a document, a computer may wait for the printer to confirm it received an instruction (sometimes as small as one bit) before sending another.
