Short for random-access method of accounting and control, the IBM 305 RAMAC is an early computer that used the IBM 350 moving head hard drive, similar to the ones still used today. The picture shows two IBM 305 computers at U.S. Army Red River Foreground.
In 1960, the IBM 305 RAMAC scored the Winter Olympic Games in California, marking the beginning of four decades of IBM technical support for the Olympic Games. The RAMAC also tallies votes at both U.S. political conventions, and processes presidential election returns.
