Respawn
Alternatively called pop or spawn, respawn is a gaming term first used in the game Doom. It describes a situation where a computer or human-controlled character in a video game comes back to life after dying or being killed. The respawn rate is often immediate for human-controlled characters, returning them to a designated spawning point or one of a few randomly generated spots.
Depending on the game and the character's level, you may also lose items or suffer a death penalty when respawning.
In multiplayer games where items are collected, and creatures are killed, respawn refers to when the item or creature returns. The game developer can adjust the respawn time (respawn rate) of in-game items and creatures to affect the gameplay experience. In MMORPGs (massively-multiplayer online role-playing games), like World of Warcraft, respawn rates can be adjusted by the developers to control the in-game economy.
