ROM cartridge
Updated: 09/12/2023 by Computer Hope
A ROM cartridge is a read-only memory chip housed in a plastic casing, with an opening at one end exposing the chip interface. The cartridge can be inserted into a computing device, such as a video game console, that loads software or data from the chip.
Examples of ROM cartridges are those used with earlier game consoles, like the Atari 2600 or the Nintendo Entertainment System. Pictured is the interior and exterior of a video game cartridge for the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System).
