Many believe SOS to mean "Sink Or Swim," "Save Our Ship," or "Save Our Souls," but these are all backronyms. In actuality, SOS is the Morse code distress signal. This signal was chosen because it is very distinctive "...- - -..." and it happens to be the same signal for the letters S O S.
