Stock may refer to any of the following:

1. Stock is another term describing inventory.

2. When describing a product, stock is one with no additional software or other changes made to the initial design. For example, a stock Android phone is an Android smartphone with only the Android operating system and no additional apps, skins, or bloatware.

3. Alternatively known as equity, a stock describes capital raised by a publicly-traded company through shares. A share represents a fraction of ownership and entitles the owner to a portion of a company's profits, depending on the number of shares owned. For example, if a company had 100,000 shares, and you purchased 1,000 of those shares, you would own 1% of the company.

Publicly traded computer-related companies listed on Computer Hope have a stock symbol on their company pages. This stock symbol is what's used to purchase a share of a company. For example, on our Microsoft page, you can see that Microsoft's stock symbol is MSFT.

You can buy and sell stock using an online trading company or an online stockbroker.
