When a computer user adds their e-mail address to a mailing list (newsletter), the user is subscribing to whatever is sent to that mailing list. Sometimes, subscribing involves the entry, or registration, of an e-mail address on a web page. The e-mail address is added to a database containing other e-mail addresses and is used to mass mail some form of digital content. Receiving daily offers or coupons or weekly updates from various companies are some uses of subscriptions.

When customers subscribe to a magazine, some companies offer online, or digital, content with that subscription. This online content is included with the magazine subscription, providing customers with the option of viewing the magazine content online. It may include additional content not available in the printed magazine.

What is a subscriber?

A subscriber is anyone who has successfully subscribed to a service or person on the Internet. For example, when you subscribe to someone on YouTube, you become a subscriber of that YouTube channel and see their new videos appear on your home page.

Tip

If you're more familiar with a social media platform like X, a subscriber is the same as a follower.
