System Properties
System Properties is a section of Microsoft Windows for editing operating system settings, including hardware settings, connectivity, user profiles, security settings, and the computer name. The image below shows an example of how the system properties window looks in Windows 10.
How do I open System Properties?
- Press Windows key+Pause on the keyboard. Or, right-click the This PC application (in Windows 10) or My Computer (previous versions of Windows), and select Properties.
- Under Control Panel Home, click one of the bottom three options.
- To adjust settings, click one of the tabs at the top.

The System Properties window can also be opened by running the associated .cpl file. To do this, follow the steps below.
System Properties tabs
Below are each of the tabs found in the System Properties window and a list of available options.
Computer Name
In the Computer Name tab, you can change the name of the computer (as seen on the network) and its workgroup. To change either of these settings click the Change button.
Hardware
In the Hardware tab, you can access Device Manager and change how devices are installed on the computer.
Advanced
In the Advanced tab, you can change the following settings.
- Performance settings.
- View and change user profiles.i
- Change the startup and recovery settings.
- Adjust the environment variables.
System Protection
In the System Protection tab, you can adjust how the computer is protected with the System Restore and configure other system settings.
Remote
In the Remote tab, you can enable and disable remote assistance.
