T1

A T1 is a leased data communications line capable of transmitting 1,544,000 bits per second. T1 lines were used for transferring a company's network data to the Internet or for an ISP (Internet service provider) connection.
Note
The T1 was used in North America, those in European countries used an E1.
Benefits of "T-Carrier" (T1 lines) include:
- Lines are dedicated, which means you are not sharing your connection with others.
- Because it is a dedicated line, it's a more secure connection.
- Lines are synchronous, which means you get the same download and upload speed.
Even with all the benefits of these lines, because of the needs for more bandwidth, alternative solutions like fiber optic lines have replaced T1 lines.
