Updated: 11/12/2023 by Computer Hope
Alternatively called a DS3 (Digital Signal 3), a T3 is a leased data communications lines capable of transmitting a digital signal at 44.746 megabits per second. Originally developed by Bell Labs, they are used for companies requiring medium amounts of bandwidth or as a backbone. The cable is made of 75-ohm coaxial cable, that attaches using BNC (Bayonet Neill-Concelman) connectors.
Note
The North American T3 is similar to the European E3.
Features of T3 lines
- Lines are dedicated, which means you are not sharing your connection with others.
- Because it is a dedicated line, it's a more secure connection.
- Lines are synchronous, which means you get the same download and upload speed.
Note
Many are turning to fiber optic lines as they become available due to their very high upload and download speeds.
