Table header
Updated: 08/02/2020 by Computer Hope
A table header is a row at the top of a table used to label each column. For example, in the below table, there are three columns with a "Name," "Date of Birth," and "Phone" header.
Example of a table header in HTML
Name | Date of Birth | Phone |
---|---|---|
Bob Smith | 01-05-65 | 555-123-4567 |
Joe Smith | 09-10-79 | 555-801-9876 |
Jane Doe | 07-20-70 | 555-232-1818 |
Header row in a Microsoft Excel table
In Microsoft Excel tables, a header row can be configured to sort or filter data when clicked.
In the picture, the header row is the "Part," "Low Price," and "High Price" cells at the top of the table. Clicking the down arrows on any of the columns lets you sort that column. The "Low Price" column is sorted from highest to lowest in our example.
Header row in Microsoft Word
Like a header row in Excel, the header row in Microsoft Word is the top row of a table in Microsoft Word.
