Drag-and-drop to the command line
Updated: 04/26/2017 by Computer Hope
When working with files with a long file path, instead of typing the full path, drag-and-drop a file in the command line. For example, let's say that you want to use the command line to copy the file picture.gif from the directory E:\Computer Hope\long path ips\examples\images. If you drag that file from the folder and drop on the command line window, the text "E:\Computer Hope\long path ips\examples\images\picture.gif" is inserted int your command.
Note
This tip does not work in Windows Vista.
Tip
If you're having difficulty with the path being copied in Windows 7 and later Windows versions, make sure you're running the command line as administrator.
