Remotely access other computers in your network
You can control a remote computer with your local computer, regardless of what operating systems they use, with the VNC (Virtual Network Computing) protocol.
Many free VNC software packages are available to download and use. Two popular VNC software packages are RealVNC and TightVNC.
VNC client and server
To connect to another computer with VNC, the remote computer must be running a VNC server, and the local computer must be running a VNC client. The local computer sees the remote computer's screen, and sends mouse clicks and keyboard presses to the server. The server responds by sending display updates to the VNC client, which displays them in the client application window.
Because the VNC information is sent over a network, the connection may exhibit some degree of latency in remotely registering input and locally updating the display.
Because the VNC protocol is a standard, you can use different software for your VNC client and server, and they can successfully communicate. For example, you can use RealVNC as the client on your local computer, and TightVNC as the server on the remote computer.
