Formerly called Twitter, X is a social network founded by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Evan Williams, and Biz Stone on March 21, 2006, and the site was launched to the public on July 15, 2006. X allows anyone to post a short 280-character message about anything over the Internet, application, or on their phone.

Note

On July 24, 2023, Twitter, Inc. changed the blue bird icon to an "X" and its color scheme to black.

X is considered the pulse of the Internet, a quick and easy method of discovering what is happening across the world. Using the X search, you can find the latest news, events, and trends.

Note

Twitter was featured as a top term of 2009 and in 2023, when X was a top term.

Why is there a character limit on X?

Twitter originally started with a 140-character limit, so one Twitter message could fit in a text message.
