Universal Time
Updated: 11/16/2019 by Computer Hope
Universal Time is a time scale that is based on the Earth's rotation. There are several versions of this time scale (i.e., UT1, UT2, UTC), though the one used as the primary time standard for clock regulation today is UTC (Coordinated Universal Time).
The time zone of UTC aligns with 0° longitude, as pictured in the map. Its official designation is UTC+0 or UTC±00:00, "UTC plus-or-minus zero." It is not affected by daylight saving time.
Tip
Universal Time is used as a standard for time on the Internet and the web.
