WebOS

In January 2009, Palm released a new operating system for smartphones called WebOS. It was released on the Palm Pre, Pixi, and Veer phones as a replacement for the Palm OS (operating system) used on Palm's previous smartphones. WebOS used multi-touch gestures to navigate around the Palm Pre's touch screen.

Hewlett-Packard purchased the Palm company and the rights to WebOS, in April 2010. HP intended to use WebOS on all their devices starting in 2011 with the HP (Hewlett-Packard) TouchPad tablet computer. However, on August 18, 2011, further production of WebOS devices was discontinued, and HP announced an interest in selling its Personal Systems Group, including WebOS.
