Wi-Fi calling

Wi-Fi calling is a feature that allows iPhones and Android smartphones to make phone calls using a wireless Internet connection. It uses technologies called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) to tunnel voice calls over the Internet. Instead of connecting to a cell tower, your smartphone connects to Wi-Fi, so there are no additional costs charged to your voice or data plan.
Wi-Fi calling can enhance call quality in areas with poor cell signal reception, and enable calling when no other signal is available.
How to enable Wi-Fi calling on iPhones
Follow the steps below to enable Wi-Fi calling on an Apple iPhone.
- Open the Settings.
- Tap the Cellular menu entry.
- Tap the Wi-Fi Calling option.
- Enable the option by sliding the toggle switch to the right.
How to enable Wi-Fi calling on Android
Follow the steps below to enable Wi-Fi calling on an Android smartphone.
- Open the Settings.
- Tap the Connections menu entry.
- Tap More Connection Options.
- Tap the Wi-Fi Calling option.
- Enable the option by sliding the toggle switch to the right.
