Alternatively called a gadget, a widget is an additional feature or extension to a program, operating system GUI (graphical user interface), or web page, which enables additional features. A widget is designed to improve the user's overall experience.

A widget or gadget can add a wide variety of functionality, including icons, menus, and buttons. A widget may include new add-ons that give users the latest news, sports scores, stocks, weather information, traffic reports, calendars, mini-games, quotes, and more.
