Xbox Live
Released on November 15, 2002, Xbox Live is a service provided by Microsoft that allows users of Xbox video game consoles to connect to the Internet. The basic version of Xbox Live is available to all users free of charge. Xbox Live Gold, however, is a paid subscription that allows users to access additional online features.
Xbox Live Gold allows users to use voice-based chat with other users. Xbox Live Gold subscribers can also access online content in video games, allowing them to play in online multiplayer sessions with other players. Monthly discounts and free games are also provided to subscribers.
Xbox Live Gold plans
Xbox Live Gold payment options include a monthly plan for $9.99, a three-month plan for $24.99, or an annual payment of $59.99. Free trials of the service are also included with most Xbox One game purchases.
Xbox Live on other platforms
In May 2019, Xbox Live was introduced to other platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows, and the Nintendo Switch. Integrating Xbox Live services into other gaming platforms has allowed select games to become cross-platform, meaning users from other consoles can play with or against one another online. Examples of cross-platform games include Cuphead, Fortnite, and Minecraft.
