Access

The word access may refer to any of the following:

1. In general, access refers to the permission to use. If you've been given the rights to use a computer or service you have authorized access, usually granted by entering your username and password.

What is access denied?

Access denied is an error message displayed when you do not have appropriate access rights. If you are being denied access to a network share, Intranet, or the Internet, and are receiving the access denied message, you need permission. Contact the administrator or individual responsible for that network resource to request the appropriate rights.

Although this error is usually because of improper access rights, this error can also be caused by a hardware error or missing file. When trying to access a hardware device (e.g., removable drive) on your computer (not a network) and you get an access denied error, the device has missing files, is not powered, or bad. We recommend you review the support page in our hardware database for additional help or information with the hardware device.

2. Access is also a channel of communication that is opened with a software or hardware device. Examples include a computer floppy drive, modem, or printer. If the appropriate access is not obtained, the user receives an access denied or another error message.

3. Microsoft Access is a database software management program from Microsoft.
