Dir may refer to any of the following:
1. Dir is an abbreviation for the word directory.
2. Dir is a built-in (internal) command in the Windows and MS-DOS command line that lists the contents of a directory. It may also be used in a Windows FTP command line session to list files and directories on the remote or local computer.
Tip
In Unix-like operating systems such as Linux, the corresponding command that lists files and directories is ls.
3. With HTML (hypertext markup language), the <dir> tag was used to designate a collection of file names.
