FIDO Alliance
The FIDO Alliance, also known as the Fast Identity Online Alliance, is an industry consortium created to develop new authentication technologies. These technologies address the problem of creating and remembering multiple online usernames and passwords. It works to make fingerprint scanners, voice and facial recognition, USB (universal serial bus) security tokens, smart cards, near field communication, and public key cryptography work together.
The FIDO Alliance was founded by several companies and organizations including PayPal and Lenovo. It later grew to include members such as Blackberry, Google, MasterCard, Microsoft, Synaptics, Visa, SurePassID, Infineon, and SecureKey. Their first official specification was released on December 9, 2014.
