Malvertising
Updated: 11/13/2018 by Computer Hope
Malvertising is a type of advertising done by malicious users that help distribute malware through online advertising companies or by hijacking websites to display their ads. For example, a visitor may see an advertisement for a free antivirus or security utility that in reality is a malware related product.
Although larger advertising networks such as Google AdSense can detect and prevent these types of ads, they may still be shown. Having software like WOT (Web of Trust) running on your computer is a good idea to help block malvertising.
