MSX

MSX is a computer architecture first announced by Microsoft on June 16, 1983. The design was developed as an attempt to unify standards among other hardware manufacturers. The various MSX computer models feature the MSX-DOS or MSX BASIC operating system, Zilog Z80 processors, and had 16 to 512 kilobytes of memory.
MSX computers were popular in Japan, Brazil, the Netherlands, and the Middle East. Despite Microsoft's efforts, the MSX computer suffered from low sales numbers in the United States. Video game companies like Konami and Hudson had developed games for the MSX computer before the Nintendo Entertainment System was created. MSX computers were manufactured until 1995, ending with the MSXturboR.
