A non-Windows application is a Microsoft DOS software application designed for a Microsoft operating system, but does not operate in Microsoft Windows. These programs commonly only work in MS-DOS.
This term is an application that doesn't work in Windows, but works in other operating systems, such as Linux or macOS. However, it's more appropriately a program designed for a Microsoft operating system, but not Microsoft Windows.
