Power up
Power up may refer to any of the following:
1. To Power up means to turn on a computer or other electrical devices, such as a peripheral or smartphone. Traditionally, users power up a computer by pressing the power button on the top or front of it. Other ways to turn on a computer include a switch on the back or a button above the keyboard on a laptop.
When a computer is powered up, it starts the boot process, which loads the computer's operating system and necessary drivers. After the computer has successfully booted, it is ready to be used.
2. With gaming, a power-up or powerup is a unique item that gives an in-game character an advantage, like becoming faster or stronger in some way. Once a power-up is gained, it may turn on immediately or require a special button or key to be pressed for activation. For example, in most Nintendo games featuring Mario, when the player's character finds the starman (star) power-up, they are given invincibility and faster movement speed for a short time.
