Founded in 1974 by James (Jimmy) Treybig, Tandem Computers was a manufacturer of fault-tolerant computer systems. Their products included ATM networks, telephone switching centers, stock exchanges, and transaction processing applications requiring near-zero data loss and maximum uptime. Their systems were designed as a microcomputer that could compete with IBM mainframes. It is now a server division within Hewlett Packard.
