Telepresence
Telepresence uses digital video and networking technology to enable remote individuals to interact as if they were in the same room. The main component of telepresence is users being simulated in a way that they feel like they are a part of the remote location. For instance, in corporate settings, meetings between employees who are located in other towns or cities can be conducted using microphones, video cameras and large video screens.
History of telepresence
According to scientist Marvin Minsky, the concept of telepresence originated in a 1942 short story by science fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein. Today, telepresence technologies include autonomous robots, holograms, virtual reality, and mechanical interfaces that create the physical likeness of a remote user's moving hands.
