Webisode
A webisode is a term derived from the combination of the words "web" and "episode." It describes a short video, between three and fifteen minutes in length. The video is designed for viewing on the Internet instead of a TV, a commercial, or a collection of short video clips. It is usually available for viewing by way of streaming video or by downloading and watching on a local computer.
Websites that feature webisodes are Vimeo and YouTube. Peer-to-peer network websites, like BitTorrent, may also feature some webisodes for download. Some original webisodes were comedy-based. One website, Funny or Die, is centered around the distribution of comedy webisodes. It was founded by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay and earned over $50 million in annual revenue, largely due to a webisode series about a vulgar two-year-old landlord. This success and popularity resulted in an agreement with HBO to air a program called Funny or Die Presents, which debuted on HBO in February 2010.
