Bridge

Bridge may refer to either of the following:

Multiple computers connected together on a network

1. With networks, a bridge, network bridge, or bridging is a device that connects two LANs (Local Area Networks) or two segments of the same LAN. With the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) model, bridging happens in the data link layer.

Tip

If one or more of the networks being bridged is wireless, the bridge is called a wireless bridge.

Difference between a bridge and a router

Unlike a router, bridges are protocol independent. They forward packets without analyzing and re-routing messages. In other words, bridging connects two smaller networks to create one big network. With routing, the two smaller networks can connect but remain independent.

2. Bridge may also refer to Adobe Bridge, the file management program included in the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of apps.
