CNAME

A Canonical NAME, also known as a CNAME or a CNAME record, is a Domain Name System record. It is used to establish that a domain name is a nickname for another domain. Using a set of rules, the canonical name of a host computer is translated into the actual domain name, which is then translated into the computer's IP address. Canonical names are essential when running multiple network services on a single computer. For example, a single networked host, "myserver.com" might have FTP services that are accessed using the canonical name "ftp.myserver.com" and a web server that is accessed using the canonical name "www.myserver.com."
