With computers and IT (information technology), to deploy or deployment is the setting up, configuring, testing, and enabling of a system or software.

Deployment examples

Below are examples of deployment with a brief description of each.

Cloud deployment - Connecting, configuring, and securing a cloud environment.
Database deployment - Configuring, connecting, and setting up a database, and verifying it's accessible.
Software deployment - Copying, installing, configuring, and testing software on a computer. With a large network, a network administrator may be responsible for the deployment of software on all connected workstations.
System deployment - Setting up computers, network equipment, servers, and other infrastructure.
Web application deployment - Installing, activating, and setting up software on a web server. Once installed, the deployment may include the configuration and connecting of any software dependencies, like changing environmental settings or connecting the software to a database.
