EVD

Short for Enhanced Versatile Disc, EVD was an upcoming standard that was first announced on November 18, 2003, that wanted to replace DVDs (Digital Versatile Discs). EVD expected to offer five times the quality of image definition compared to DVD. Several Chinese firms plan on dropping developing DVD players and creating EVD compliant players by 2008.
Because of other competing standards EVD was in a format war with Blu-ray and HD DVD. However, with HD DVD being abandoned and no development of EVD since 2008, it is believed that Blu-ray will be the only disc standard after DVD.
