IPTO

Short for Information Processing Technology Office, IPTO is an agency of the DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) that was established in 1962. The IPTO came about after Joseph Licklider became the first Director and responsible for heading the effort and helped invest in technologies and research.
In 2010, the IPTO was combined with DARPA's TCTO (Transformational Convergence Technology Office) to form the I2O (Information Innovation Office). The I2O funds research in the areas of "Cyber, Analytics, and Symbiosis" to "ensure information advantage for the U.S. and its allies."
