SIMD is short for single instruction, multiple data and is a multiple-processing system that performs one operation simultaneously on more than one piece of data.
SIMD capabilities were first used in supercomputer systems in the 1970s. Today, SIMD is included with modern CPUs because it can process real-time multimedia functions. Examples include changing the volume of audio or adjusting the color and brightness of a video.
