Short for unbuffered dual inline memory module, UDIMM is a type of volatile memory chip, used mostly in desktop and laptop computers. It is a conventional type of RAM (random-access memory). Modern DDR (double data rate) memory chips are a type of UDIMM.
UDIMM usually runs faster than RDIMM (registered memory) in systems with only one or two modules per memory channel. However, in computers that use three or more modules per channel, such as high-end workstations and servers, RDIMM can increase efficiency and reduce latency.
