Alternatively called a VideoCD or Video Compact Disc, VCD is a concept introduced in 1993 by Philips, JVC and Sony that facilitates the storage of MPEG-1 video on a CD-ROM (Compact Disc Read-Only Memory). Each VCD can hold up to 74 minutes of video on a 680 MB CD.

Released in 1993, the White Book, also known as Digital Video, defines the VCD (VideoCD) standard and the CD-i Bridge format used with CD-i (Compact Disc-interactive).
