War driving

Also known as access point mapping, Wardriving is locating and logging onto open wireless access points while driving down streets. It was largely popularized by Pete Shipley after he developed a method of automating the process using dedicated software and a GPS (Global Positioning System). Wardriving allows an individual to create a list of open networks in any area and if unsecured, come back and browse them freely.

Note

War flying is where a person uses an airplane instead of a vehicle to detect unsecured wireless networks.
