CSNET

Short for Computer Science Network, CSNET is a computer network that was developed by the U.S. National Science Foundation in the early 1980s. This network allowed computer science and engineering departments not doing research with the Department of Defense that couldn't connect to ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) to connect to a network of their own. CSNET helped bring and introduce thousands of new users to the Internet that we know today and was later merged into CREN (Corporation for Research and Educational Networking) in 1988.
