PXE
Updated: 05/06/2024 by Computer Hope
Short for preboot execution environment, PXE is a specification published in Wired for Management Baseline 2.0. It is a method of configuring or reconfiguring a system remotely, even with a blank hard drive. The computer system has a universal service agent loaded locally in the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) or LAN (Local Area Network) adapter.
PXE allows a system to interact with a remote server, retrieve a boot image over a network, install an operating system, and configure a user without a technician present.
